~のような / ~のように

~no yoona / ~no yooni
  "noun A のような noun B" means "a B like/similar to A."
  When you say "A のような B," the A either has the same quality or appearance as B, or is an example of B.

私は鎌倉のうな 町が好きです。

I like towns like Kamakura.

watashi-wa, kamakura-no yoo-na machi-ga suki desu.

 
私は アウンサン・スーチーのような
人になりたいです。

I want to be a person like Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese democracy leader.

watashi-wa, aun-san suuchii no yo-na
hito ni naritai desu.
 
  You use "noun A のように" when you want to describe an action which is "done in the same way as A"
or a "characteristic which is comparable to A."
   
メアリーさんは魚のように
上手に泳げます。
 Mary can swim very well, just like a fish.

mearii-san-wa, sakana no yoo-ni
joozuni oyogemasu.

 
アントニオさんはモハメド・アリのように
強いです。
 Antonio is strong like Mohammed Ali.
antonio-san-wa, mohamedo ari yoo-ni
tsuyoi desu.
 
あの人は壊れたレコードのように
同じことを言います。
 She says the same thing over and over again, just like a broken vinyl record.
ano hito-wa, kowareta rekoodo-no yoo-ni
onaji koto-o iimasu.
 
この町は夜の墓場のように
静かです。
 This town is as quiet as a graveyard at night.
kono machi-wa, yoru-no hakaba-no yoo-ni
shizuka desu.
