~てくれてありがとう - ~te kurete arigatoo

  When you want to express gratitude to someone, you can use the te-form + くれてありがとう - kurete arigatoo.
   
手伝ってくれてありがとう。 Thank you for helping me out.

You can use this pattern to say "thank you for being such-and-such a person,"
by using te iru instead of desu.

いい友達でいてくれてありがとう。 Thank you for being a good friend.

If you are thanking someone who needs to be talked to with the honorific language,
you should use te-form + くださってありがとうございました - kudasatte arigatoo gozaimashita.
