1 Hace el favor...
— ¡Portera!
— ¡No dé usted tantas voces! (2) ¿Qué quiere usted?		 Please.
— Doorkeeper!
— Don't shout so loud! What do you want?
2 ¿Hace el favor de decirme si vive aquí el vecino del principal? (3) Tell me, please, if the tenant of the first floor lives here?
3 Eso es.
— ¡ Pero qué bien conservado está usted (4) !
— Es que me he hecho vegetariano.		 It is (so),
— But, how well you've kept yourself up [h. well , preserved you are]!
— (That) is because [that] I have become [made myself] (a) vegetarian.
4 ¿Desde cuando?
 — Mañana comienzo (5).		 Since when?
— I begin to-morrow!
5 Leyendo los sucesos.
— ¡Qué horror!

— I think that you remember no more that you owe me 5 douros.
8 Si supiera usted todo lo que hago para evitar encontrarme con usted, no lo diría. If you knew all that I do to avoid meeting you, you would not say so!
  EJERCICIOS EXERCISE :
1 Robo de bicicletas. Bicycles stolen [theft of b.],
2 — Ferrol viernes, 16 de Mayo.  — Ferrol. Friday. May 1st.
3  — Ocho desconocidos penetraron en un depósito de bicicletas instalado en Castro. Eight unknown men have entered in a bicycle warehouse established at C.
4 Cada uno de ellos cogió una máquina, Each [one] of them seized a [machine],

  NOTES.
1 You knew (were knowing or would know) : Vd. sabía.
But If you knew: si Vd. supiera (subj. imperfect).
If you would : si Vd. quisiera;
if you could: si Vd. pudiera.
Same form with yo : si yo supiera, quisiera, pudiera, if I knew, would, could.
2 "Don't give so many voices" or: ¡No grite Vd. tanto!
3 Haga el favor, please, is, word for word, do the favour (imperative) :
¿me hace el favor? is do you do me the favour? (indicative), a question and not an order, consequently more courteous.
— El vecino or el inquilino.
4 Eso es, thats it.
— The distress call S.O.S. is (essay o essay).
— Está Vd. bien conservado, and not es, as always when health is concerned :
¿ Cómo está Vd. ? — Estoy enfermo.
5 Empiezo or principio.
6 Chico, chica, little, small, hence : a boy, girl, like muchacho, muchacha;
is also said of grown ups : es un buen chico, he's a good fellow.
   
  Cojer : to seize, to grasp.
Matar : to kill.
  Aquí te cojo, aquí te mato :
expresión que se usa para significar que alguno quiere aprovechar la ocasión que se le presenta, favorable a sus intentos.
