(1) The sound of the letter ы does not exist in English.
It is between -oo- and -ee-; it is a low -ee-, uttered from the bottom of the throat.
We shall, quite conventionally, note it by y.
Вы is sounded a little like vee (with lips almost touching).

AK-NOTE: That's like live - I live in American English.

(2) The soft sign ь simply softens the л - [ль].

(3) The letter э (reversed е) gives the sound of final y in baby, lady etc...

AK-NOTE: That's an error. The letter э is similar to the closed [e] in men - these men.
