| 那个时候，他和她在同一个城市打工。 | At that time, he and she were working in the same city. |

有一天，他对她表白， ＂我喜欢你。你呢？＂ |
One day, he confessed to her, “I feel I’m attracted to you. What about you?” |

yǒu yī tiān， tā duì tā biǎobái， ＂wǒ xǐhuan nǐ。 nǐ ne？＂ |
|
| 她脸一红，低头不语。 | She blushed and kept her head down without an answer. |

隔天，她带给他一盒点心， 小声说，＂我做的。＂ |
The other day, she brought a box of cookies to him and whispered, “I made it.” |

Before bed, he opened the cookie box. Wow, that was really tasty! |

When their money ran out, he decided to get a better paid job. |

朋友约着去南方承包工程， 他动心了。 |
His friends were looking for people to run projects in the south. He was tempted. |

临走，他拉着她的手说， ＂我能一辈子吃你做的点心吗？＂ |
Before he left, he hold her hands and asked, “May I enjoy your cookies forever?” |

| 她答，＂如果你能一辈子陪我。＂ | She answered, “As long as you are by my side.” |

在南方的日子里， 他每个月都会收到她邮寄过来的点心。 |
While he was working in the south, he received home made cookies mailed by her every month. |

|
|
他一边品尝她用心制作的点心， 一边给她打电话。 |
He would call her while munching on her love-filled cookies. |

＂亲，好想你！ 三个月后，工程做完我就回来了。 你等我噢！＂ |
“Sweet heart, miss you so much! After three months the project will be done and I’ll be back. Wait for me!” |

＂ qīn， hǎo xiǎng nǐ！ sān gè yuè hòu， gōngchéng zuòwán wǒ jiù huílai le。 nǐděng wǒ ō！＂ |

| 三个月后，工程真的做完了。 | Three months later, the project was completed as expected. |

＂亲，他们又找了个新工程， 报酬是这次的两倍， 我还是去吧，机会难得。＂ |
“Honey, they just find another project, the offer is doubled. I think I should go. It’s such a good opportunity.” |

来到新的城市， 他又没白天，没黑夜地忙起来。 |
As soon as he arrived at the new city, he started to work days and nights. |

不过，收到她寄来的点心， 仍然是他最开心的事情。 |
Receiving mailed cookies from her was still the happiest thing in his life. |

转眼又是半年，工程快做完时， 包工头却跑了。 说好的另一半的报酬也没了。 |
Another half year passed, the project was almost finished. But the labor contractor disappeared with the other half payment he promised to pay. |

zhuǎnyǎn yòu shì bànnián， gōngchéng kuài zuòwán shí， bāogōngtóu què pǎo le。 shuōhǎo de lìngyībàn de bàochou yě méile。 |
|
| 他没有把坏消息告诉她，怕她担心。 | He didn’t tell her the bad news. He didn’t want to worry her. |
| tā méiyǒu bǎ huài xiāoxi gàosu tā， pà tā dānxīn。 | |
|
瞒着她，他又去找了两份工， 一天只睡四个小时。 |
Without telling her, he worked two more jobs and only slept for four hours a day. |

|
|
他想，自己再努力些， 就能尽早挣够结婚的钱。 |
He thought that as long as he worked hard enough he would be able to earn enough money soon to get married. |

| 没时间打电话，他只能给她发短信。 | He could hardly find time to call but message her. |

＂这个月的点心收到了，还是那么好吃， 还是那么想你！＂ |
“Cookies were received. They taste as yummy as always. I miss you as much as always!” |

＂ zhège yuè de diǎnxin shōu dàoliǎo， háishi nàme hǎochī， háishi nàme xiǎng nǐ！＂ |

| 她问，＂什么时候回来？＂ | She asked,”When will you be back?” |

| ＂再过三个月，快了。＂他答。 | “Three more months, it’ll be soon.” He answered. |

眼看钱快挣够了， 他在日历上数着剩下的日子， 憧憬着回到她身边的那一天。 |
When he was close to his target income, he started to count the days left while thinking about the reunion with her. |

yǎnkàn qián kuài zhèng gòu le， tā zài rìlì shàng shǔ zhe shèngxià de rìzi， chōngjǐng zhe huídào tā shēnbiān de nà yī tiān。 |
|
|
也许是太劳累，也许是太兴奋， 一天他在工作的时候晕倒了。 |
Maybe he was too tired, or too excited, he suddenly passed out at work one day. |

朋友送他去医院。 在医院住了三天，他又执意要出院。 |
His friend sent him to the hospital. He stayed there for three days and insisted to be released. |

| 他对朋友说，想家了，要回家乡。 | He told his friends that he was homesick and wanted to return home. |

走前， 他去珠宝店为她挑了一份贵重的礼物。 |
Before he left, he went to jewelry store and picked a precious gift for her. |
