| It is most common to use the end particle ka when making a question sentence.
Simply add ka to the end of a statement. |

| りゅう がくせい です。 | (I am) an international student. |

ryuu-gakusei desu. |

| りゅう がくせい です か。 | (Are you) an international student? |
|
ryuu-gakusei desu ka? |
|

Questions may also contain question words such as

| せんもん は なん です か。 | What is your major? |
|
senmon wa nan desu ka? |
|
| せんもん は えいご です。 | (My major) is English. |
| senmon wa eigo desu. | |
| いま なんじ です か。 | What time is it now? |
| ima nanji desu ka? | |
| いま くじ です。 | It's nine o'clock. |
| (ima) ku-ji desu. | |
| メアリー さん は なんさい です か。 | How old are you, Mary? |
| Mearii san wa nan-sai desu ka? | |
| じゅうきゅうさい です。 | I'm nineteen years old. |
