УРОК НОМЕР ШЕСТЬДЕСЯТ ВОСЕМЬ (№68)

Lesson number sixty eight (#68)
     
  Весной (1) In Spring
     
1 С земли ещё не сошёл снег (2), From the earth the snow has not yet gone,
2 a в душу уже просится весна (3). And one already feels spring coming [in the soul already spring asks (for coming)].
     
3 Если вы когда-нибудь выздоравливали от тяжёлой болезни (4), If you ever recovered from a serious illness,
4 то вам известно блаженное состояние, then you know [to you known] (this) blessed state,
5 когда замираешь (N. 6) от смутных предчувствий (5) when one [thou] becomes languishing with [from] vague presentiments
6 и улыбаешься без/безо всякой причины. and (when) one smiles without any [every] cause.
7 По-видимому, такое же состояние переживает теперь и природа (6). Apparently (it is) a similar state (that) nature is now feeling also [and nature].
     
8 Земля холодна, грязь со снегом хлюпает под ногами, The earth is cold, the mud and [with] snow splash under the feet,
9 но как кругом всё весело, ласково, приветливо (7). but how merry, caressing, welcoming is everything around !
     
10 Воздух так ясен и прозрачен, что если взобраться на колокольню (8), The air is so clear and transparent that, if (you) go up a steeple,
11 то, кажется, увидишь всю вселенную от края до края. then, it seems, you [will] see all the universe from end to end.
     
12 Солнце светит ярко, и лучи его, играя и улыбаясь, The sun shines bright, and its rays, playing and smiling.
13 купаются в лужах вместе с воробьями (9). bathe in the pools together with the sparrows.
14 Речка надувается и темнеет (10) ; The little river swells and darkens;
     
15 она уже проснулась и не сегодня — завтра заревёт (11). it has already awakened, and one of these days [not to-day - tomorrow] will begin to brawl.
16 Деревья голы, но уже живут, дышат (12). The trees are bare, but already they live, breathe.
17 В такое время хорошо гнать метлой или лопатой (13) In such weather (it is) pleasant to chase with broom or shovel
18 грязную воду в канавах (14), the dirty water in the gutters
19 пускать по воде кораблики .. (15) let go little ships on the water.
20 Да, всё хорошо в это счастливое время года, Yes, all is good in this happy season [time of year],
21 в особенности если вы молоды ... especially if you are young,
22 и если по службе не обязаны сидеть в четырёх стенах с утра до вечера ... (16) and if you are not obliged by your service to stay [sit] between [in] 4 walls from morning to night.

EXERCISE
1 От этого можно с ума сойти. This is enough to [from this you can] drive you out of your mind.
2 Это им не по душе. That's not to their liking [soul].
3 Она поёт с душой. She sings spiritedly.
4 С тех пор (1), как мы с вами встретились, я много пережил/пережил. Since we met, I experienced a lot.
5 Передайте мой привет вашей супруге (ог жене). Give [transmit] my compliments to your wife.
6 Отчего сегодня все колокола звонят? Why do all the bells ring to-day?
7 Солнце (пeuter) ещё не встало, (ог взошло) когда я проснулся. The sun was not yet up when I awoke.
8 В это время года, солнце всходит поздно, и заходит рано. In this season. the sun rises late and sets early.
9 Пора мне идти  на службу. It's time for me to go to work.
10 Она часто болеет (ог хворает). She is often ill.

ADDITIONAL EXERCISE
1 Я от этого сойду с ума. This will make me go mad.
2 Я болен, он болен, вы больны, они больны. I am ill, he's ill, you're ill, they are ill.
3 Я умён, он умён, вы умны, они умны. I am clever, he's clever, you're clever, they're clever.
4 Я выздоровел, вы выздоровели. I recovered, you recovered.
5 Я здоров, вы здоровы. I am in good health, you're in good health.
6 Здорово сделано, браво! Well done, bravo !
7 Он тяжело дышет/дышит. He breathes heavily.
8 Они уже заснули. They've gone to sleep already.
9 Она ещё не проснулась. She's not awake yet.
10 Проснитесь! пора вставать! Wake up, Time to get up!
11 Я встаю рано. I get lip early.
12 Я встану рано. I shall get up early.

NOTES - ЗАМЕТКИ
1 Весна, лето, осень, зима : Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter.
- Весной, летом, осенью, зимой: in Spring, in Summer, in Autumn, in Winter.
2 Сойти (с) : to descend from, leave.
Поезд сошёл с рельс: the train ran off the rails.
Он сошёл с ума: He is [has gone] out of his mind (ум).
Сумасшедший: madman, lunatic.
— Земля, the earth.
3 Душа, the soul;
русская душа, the Russian soul. —
Голубушка, душа моя: my dove, my heart.
Душенька: "my little soul", coaxing words in Russian.
The heart is сердце.
4 Выздоравливать : imperfective of выздороветь.
Болезнь: illness;
боль, pain;
болеть: to be ill or to ache or feel pain;
больной, ill;
больница: the hospital.
5 Чувство: feeling; чувствовать: to feel.
Предчувствие - presentiment, foreboding.
6 Природа, nature, is, with душа, a master word of the Russian language.
Вы любите природу? : You like nature ((he fields, the country) ?
- Пережить, переживать: to "live through", endure, bear.
Вы не можете знать, сколько я пережил/пережил: you cannot know how much I have endured!
7 Ласкать : to caress;
я ласкаю. вы ласкаете;
ласка, plur. ласки, caress.
— Привет, salute, salutation, compliments;
привет вашему дяде: (My) regards to your uncle.
8 Взобраться: the prefix вз, or вс gives the idea of rising up:
солнце всходит, the sun rises.
— Колокол (plur. колокола), the bell.
9 Лужа : a pool, puddle.
— Воробей: sparrow.
10 Дуть: to blow.
Ветер дует: the wind blows;
дуться: to sulk;
надуть, надувать: to puff up, to inflate, or to dupe, cheat.
— Темно здесь, it is dark here.
— Река, river; речка, small river; ручей, brook.
11 Заснуть : to fall asleep;
проснуться: to wake up.
12 In the singular, it would be :
Дерево голо, но уже живёт, дышит (infin.: жить, дышать).
13 Метла, the broom; лопата: the shovel.
— Гнать, я гоню, вы гоните, они гонят.
14 Канава: the ditch, gutter.
15 Корабль: the ship; кораблик, small ship.
16 Служба : service (служить, to serve).
Военная служба, military service.
Идти на службу: to go to one's work, to the office.
— Он ищет службу: He is seeking employment.
Не в службу а в дружбу! : it's a friend's service I'm asking you for!
(Друг, friend; дружба, friendship).

До сих пор (gen. plural.) : until now.
