Как прелестно на дворе!
Утренний воздух ещё свежий, чистый, (2)

 How nice it is outside [How charming on yard]. The morning air is still fresh, pure,
2 солнце уже начинает греть,
 хорошо жить на свете! (3)		 the sun already begins to (be) warm, (it is) good to be [live] on earth !

Мы куда пойдём?
Хотите вдоль реки, до памятника Гоголя
и потом по Садовой до Театральной Площади? (4)

 Where shall we go? Will you (go) along the river, up to Gogol's Monument, then by Gardens-(Street) up to Theatre Square?
4 Мне совершенно безразлично.
Ведите меня, куда вам угодно.		 It is perfectly indifferent to me. Take [lead] rue where (motion) you like.
     
5 Я хотела бы вам показать достопримечательности (5) города. I would (femin.) like to show you the noteworthy things of the town.
6 Что это за башня? What is this tower?
7 Это пожарная башня;
оттуда пожарные раньше наблюдали за городом,
и в (6) случае пожара...		 It is a fire-tower; from there firemen formerly watched [after] the town and in case of a fire...
8 A теперь?
— Теперь конечно это лишнее,
(7) есть телефонные автоматы...		 And now?
— Now of course, it is superfluous, there are telephonic robots.
9 Смотрите, Нина Александровна, что там случилось?
Толпа собирается ...		 Look, Nina Aleksandrovna what happened over there? A crowd is gathering.
10 Ничего не случилось; там базар,
и все эти люди заняты своими (N. 9) покупками (8).		 Nothing happened; that is the market and all these people are busy with their purchases (instr.).
11 Пойдём посмотрим, что там продаётся. Let's go (and) see, what is sold there?
     
12 Спросите лучше: чего там не продаётся;
тут всё найдёшь (N. 8) - от поношенного платья
до овощей  и мяса (9).		 Ask rather : what is not sold there;
you find everything here, from worn out clothes to vegetables and meat.
13 Какой шум! все эти люди кричат во всё горло. What (a) noise ! All these people shout at the top of their voices [in all throat].
14 Да, наш мужик, как и все крестьяне (10) любят говорить громко. Yes, our moujik, like [and) all peasants, like to speak loud.
15 Вот эти два спорят так горячо ..
не подерутся ли они? (11)		 Here are those two (who) quarrel so warmly... are they not going to fight?
16 Нет, до этого не дойдёт;
они просто торгуются (12) по-своему (N. 9).		 No it will not go so far as [until] this; they simply haggle in their (own way).

EXERCISE
1 Вам нужно дойти до площади и свернуть направо. You must go up to (perf.) the square and turn (perf.) on the right.
2 Письмо дошло в Лондон через неделю. The letter arrived (perf.) in London (acc. of mot.) in [through] one week.
3 Он греется на солнце. He warms (imperfect) himself in the sun.
4 Возьмите это от меня на память. Take (perf.) this in remembrance of me [of me on memory].
5 Она пошла за покупками. She has gone (perf.) shopping (instr.).
6 О чём вы так горячо спорите? About what (prepos.) are you discussing so warmly (imperf.)?
7 Что значит "мне безразлично"? What does a "mne bezrazlichno" mean?
8 То же самое, что "мне всё равно". The same as "mne vsio ravno".
9 И "различно"?
— "Различно" значит: не похоже;
говорят тоже: разно.

And "different"?
— Different means : not (the) same ;
one also says [they say] : "razno".
10 Русский язык очень богатый.
— Да, и к сожалению очень трудный.		 The Russian language is very rich (masc.).
— Yes, and unhappily very difficult...

ADDITIONAL EXERCISE
1 Выйдем на двор. Let's go (perf.) out (acc. of mot.).
2 Река красивая.
— Холодно на дворе. 		The river is beautiful (nom.).
— (It is) cold outside (prepos.).
3 Пойдём до реки. Let's go up to the river (genit.).
4 Пойдём вдоль реки. Let's go alongside the river (genit.).

Пойдём за реку [зареку].

Lets go on the other side of [behind] the river (acc. of mot.)
6 Памятник за рекой. The monument is on the other side of [behind] the river (instr.)
7 Пойдём до памятника. Let's go up to the monument (genit.).
8 Пойдём за памятник. Let's go behind the monument (acc. of mot.).
9 Я подожду (ог буду ждать) перед памятником;
за памятником.

I shall wait before (instr.)
— behind — the monument (instr.).
10 О каком памятнике вы говорите?
- О какой реке?		 Of what monument do you speak (prep.) ?
- Of what river (prep.)?
11 Они пошли в сад. They have gone into the garden (acc. of mot.).
12 Они сидят в саду. (1) They are sitting in the garden (prepos.).

Башня по середине / посредине сада.

 The tower is in the middle of the garden (genit.).
14 Остановитесь перед садом. Stop before the garden (instrumental).
     
    Let us pluck to-day :
  На дворе мороз it freezes outside.
  Это лишнее it's  superfluous.
 

До этого не дойдёт

it will not go so far.
  Каждый пел по-своему each sang in his own way.
  Они занимаются своими делами they are concerned with their affairs.
  Они спорят, но не подерутся they quarrel, but they won't fight.

Прогулка (Hard L!) : a walk.
Прогуляться, to take a little stroll.
Он прогулял всё утро: he walked about all the morning.
Прогулять also means to fail to go to work, and for schoolboys, to play the truant.
Прогульщик: a workman (рабочий) who fails to go to work.
Прогул, absence from work.

Двор : the yard;
на дворе: outside.
Дворник: the door-keeper.
Дворянин, the courtier, nobleman.

Двор, a much used word, is also the farm, the "hearth".
Деревня в сто дворов, a village of one hundred hearths.
Дворец, the palace.

Свет : 1) the world; 2) the light.
Я один на свете: I'm alone in the world.
Дайте свету: give light!
— При свете луны: in the moonlight.
— Уже светло: it is already light.

Река, the river.
Вдоль реки: alongside the river.
По реке: on, along, the river.
- Памятник: a monument.
Садовая улица: street of gardens.
Сад: the garden;
Садовник, the gardener.
Площадь (рLawsh'ad'), the (public) square.
Памятник comes from память, the memory.
Написать на память: to write from memory.

Here is a master word, fit to rival with our "anticonstitutionally".
Досто- represents достойный, worthy;
примечательный, remarkable.
Достопримечательность: a thing worthy of note.

(The root is жар as in жара, heat, жареное, fried, жаркое, roast meat).

Лишний: superfluous; neuter : лишнее; feminine: лишняя.

Базар: the market.

Крестьянин (kresst'yanin), plural крестьяне: the peasant, peasants.
