AK: Please enter the bureau; sit down (pl.).

EXTRA (ADDITIONAL) EXERCISE
1 У меня есть одна минута для вас. I have one minute for you - .... [with me is + nomin.] ...
2 У меня нет ни одной минуты. I have not one minute (negat., genitive).
   

AK: I haven't got [not] a minute.
3 Я подожду одну минуту. I shall wait one minute (accus.).
4 Подождите меня несколько минут. Wait for me a few minutes (genit. plur, after несколько).
5 Вы знаете Париж?

(Do) you know Paris? (accus. = norm. in inanimate things).
6 Я сам из Парижа. I am myself from Paris (genit. after из).
7 Я живу в Париже.

l live in Paris (preposit. after в without motion into).

У него нет ни одного друга.

 He has not one friend (negat., genit.).
    AK: meaning is: he hasn't got [not] a one friend

Он здесь: he is here.
- Его нет здесь or его здесь нет: he is not here (genitive because negative).

Я подожду, I shall wait, whereas: вы хотите ждать, you want to (will) wait.
You are puzzled by these two different forms of to wait.
Russian verbs have indeed two different forms or "aspects".
Thus we have seen : он входит, he enters, and we have here (par. 5) : войдите, enter.
Let us merely observe these differences; we shall soon say more about this subject.

войдите! is a command : enter! (you pl.)

Париж: Paris. Из Парижа, from Paris, out of Paris, masc. genit.

Вот оно [вот-ано], here it is (neuter) ; вот она [вот-ана] (fem.); вот он [вот-он] (masc.).
The stronger stress is on вот.

Времени, genitive of время, time.
Don't try to leant it, but only to remember it.
After несколько, just as after сколько, genitive:
сколько времени, how much time (how long);
несколько минут, a few minutes.

Compare:
я меня есть время - I have (got some) time
у меня нет времени - I haven't (got any) time

In наверно and уверены (par. 15) we find the root вер as in верно, true,
and Вера (v'erra), a Christian name or faith.

Я делаю что могу: I do what I can.
- Я сделаю что смогу: I shall do what I "shall can" : no  commentary for the moment.

Я сделаю что смогу is considered two sentences, because of two verbs
я сделаю - I will do, or rather "I will have done", because of mood of completeness of сделаю
что я смогу сделать - what I will be able to do or rather "to have done"

War Hedgehog Section

We are obliged to leave a dark spot here and there :
if we overload ourselves with explanations, we shall get stuck up; and we want to go ahead.

We have outflanked the strong points or "hedgehogs", as they said during the war,
and difficulties will fall of themselves, like ripe fruit.
