To choose between the two adjectives neuf and nouveau:

· neuf (new) is used when talking about objects

which have only recently been produced.

Nouveau is used when talking about a change

of situation or when talking about an object or

person which has replaced another.

Example:  Le chauffage est neuf et pourtant il

                   sent le brыlй !

                   J'ai besoin d'un nouveau pantalon.

· neuf употребляется по отношению к недавно

сделанному предмету, а nouveau - когда речь

идет об изменении предыдущей ситуации, а

также для обозначения человека или предмета,

который заменил другого человека или предмет.

· in the case of attributive adjectives, neuf goes

after the noun while nouveau goes before it.

Example:  Au moins, tout fonctionne dans

                   une voiture neuve.

                   Je prйfиre le catalogue de votre

                   nouvelle collection.

Note. Nouveau becomes nouvel in front of a

masculine noun beginning with a vowel or a

silent h.

· в функции определения neuf стоит после

существительного, а nouveau - перед су-

ществительным.

Примеры: Au moins, tout fonctionne dans

                   une voiture neuve.

                   Je prйfиre le catalogue de votre

                   nouvelle collection.

Примечание: nouveau употребляется в форме

nouvel перед существительными мужского рода,
