The sound [s] can be produced in a variety of ways in French:

· with the initial s, either before or after a

consonant, or sometimes when it is at the end

of a word 'l'as' (ace). The sound [s] is also

produced when two 's' occur together in the

middle of a word.

Example:  Je suis juste un peu grassouillette.

                   On dirait la trousse d'un spйcialiste.

Note. Between two vowels, s produces the sound [z].

Example: Je m'appelle Lisa.

                On peut avoir des nausйes !

(l'as), а также ss в середине слова.

                   Un cygne est un animal.

· with a c cedilla before the vowels a, o

or u:

Example:  Je vois зa !

                   Nous reprendrons la leзon demain.

                   Avez-vous reзu ma lettre ?

·   согласная c перед гласными e, i или y.

Примеры: J'avais une ordonnance quelque part.

Примеры: C'est un peu difficile !

Примеры: Un cygne est un animal.

·    согласная з с диакритическим знаком внизу

   перед гласными a, o или u.

Примеры: Je vois зa !

· with the consonant s followed by the

consonant c before the vowels e or i.

Example:  Aimes-tu aller а la piscine ?

· with the consonant t followed by the vowel

i, which is in turn followed by another vowel

(there are, however, numerous exceptions: 'une

question', etc.)

Example:  Savez-vous faire une addition ?

                   On dirait que vous partez pour

                   une expйdition polaire !

· согласная s, за которой следует согласная c

перед гласными e и i.

Пример: Aimes-tu aller а la piscine ?

· согласная t, за которой следует сначала гласная

 i, а потом - другая гласная, но из этого правила

 есть исключения: "une question" и т. д.

· with the consonant x as in the words 'soixante', 'six' and 'dix'.

Note. The sound [s] disappears when 'six' and 'dix'

are followed by a noun or noun phrase, and the sound

[z] is produced when the word which follows begins

with a vowel.

· with the three consonants s, t and h one

after another in the words 'isthme' (an

isthmus) and 'asthme' (asthma).

· согласная x в словах: "soixante", "six" и "dix".

Примечание: звук [s] не произносится, когда

"six" и "dix" стоят перед существительным или

именной группой, и произносится как [z], когда

следующее слово начинается с гласной.

· согласные s, t и h, следующие одна за другой

в словах: "un isthme" и "de l'asthme".
