Faites attention à « faire » ! Pay (make) attention to " faire "
1 Voici quelques exemples de (1) divers emplois du verbe faire :
2 — Il fait bon ici!
— Oui, il ne fait ni trop chaud, ni trop froid.
3 — Il se fait tard.
— Oui, il fait à peine jour dehors, et il fait déjà nuit dans la maison.
4 — Nous ferions volontiers une partie de cartes.
— Ne voulez-vous pas plutôt faire un bout de promenade?
5 Chaque soir, nous faisions de la musique, ou bien elle me faisait la lecture.
6 Il est temps que vous vous fassiez couper les cheveux (2).
7 Excusez-moi de vous faire attendre, je suis en train de me faire la barbe (3).
8 Il est fourbu; il a fait plus de trente kilomètres à pied.
9 Cela ne faisait pas son affaire; il faisait le sourd dès qu'on lui en parlait.
10 Ne faites pas l'idiot! Vous me faites peur avec vos farces (4) !
11 — Comment trouvez-vous ces fleurs?
— Elles font très bien dans ce vase.
12 Elle m'a dit qu'elle se ferait catholique.
13 Le fromage n'était pas assez fait,
mais en revanche le poisson l'était trop.
14 Allons, maintenant, fais tes prières (5) !		 1 Here are a few instances of different uses of the verb faire (to do or make) :
— 2 It is nice here !
— Yes, it is neither too hot nor too cold.
3 It is getting late.
— Yes, it is hardly (at pain) daylight out-of-doors, and it is already dark (night) indoors.
4 We should like to have (we sh. willingly make) a game of cards.
— Would'nt you rather go for a bit of a walk?
— 5 Every evening, we would play (make) some music, or else (well) she would read aloud to me.
— 6 It is time you got (that y. should g.) your hair cut.
— 7 Excuse me for making you wait : I am just shaving.
— 8 He is fagged out; he has walked over ("more of") 30 kilometers.
— 9 That did not suit him (do his "affair");
he pretended to be (made the) deaf as soon as it was mentioned (one spoke of it to him).
— 10 Stop playing the fool ! You frighten (make fear to) me with your practical jokes !
— 11 How do you like (find) those flowers?
— They look (do) very well in that vase.
— 12 She told me she would turn (make herself) catholic.
— 13 The cheese was not "ripe" (done) enough,
but to make up for it (in revenge), the fish was too much so (it).
— 14 Come now, say your prayers !

— 2 Oui, mais je me suis fait battre;
— 3 je crois bien que je me fais trop vieux; et vous, qu'avez-vous fait?
— 4 J'ai fait quelques courses urgentes.
— 5 Maintenant, si cela ne vous fait rien, je vais faire un somme.
— 6 Faites de beaux rêves !		 1 Did you have a nice (good) game of tennis?
— 2 Yes, but I got beaten;
— 3 I do (well) believe I am getting too old, and you, what have you been doing?
— 4 I have completed some urgent errands.
— 5 Now, if you don't mind (it does you nothing), I am going to have a nap.
— 6 Pleasant (Make fine) dreams!
