Quatre-vingt-douzième (92e) Leçon  
Y croyez-vous? (1) Can you believe (do you bel. in) it?
1 Un gros monsieur se promène au jardin public,
2 quand il remarque un petit homme maigre (N.2)
3 qui, courbé en deux, cherche apparemment quelque chose dans le sable de l'allée.
4 — Qu'est-ce que vous avez perdu? (2)
5 — Oh! c'est une pièce de un franc que je viens de laisser tomber,
6 et que je n'arrive pas à retrouver.
7 Le gros monsieur met son lorgnon (3),
8 et se penche à son tour vers le sol (4).
9 Au bout de quelques instants il aperçoit une pièce,
10 la ramasse et s'écrie triomphalement :
11 — Tenez, les voici, vos cinq francs!
12 — Mais, fait le petit homme, ce n'est pas cinq francs que j'ai perdus, c'est un franc.
13 — C'est ma foi vrai, je n'y pensais plus, dit le monsieur, désappointé,
14 et, rejetant (5) dans le sable la pièce de cinq francs,
15 il se remet à chercher avec ardeur.		 — 1 A stout gentleman is taking a walk in (at) the public garden,
— 2 when he notices a little thin (meagre) man,
— 3 who, doubled (curved) in two is apparently looking for something in the gravel of the path (alley).
— 4 What have you lost?
— 5 Oh, (it is) a 1 franc coin which I have just dropped (let fall),
— 6 and which I cannot manage to find (again).
— 7 The stout gent, puts on his pince-nez,
— 8 and likewise bends down towards the ground.
— 9 After a few moments, he catches sight of (perceives) a coin,
— 10 picks it up, and exclaims triumphantly :
— 11 Here! (Hold) here (they) are your 5 francs!
— 12 But, says (makes) the little man, it is not S francs I have lost, it is 1 franc.
— 13 Indeed, so it is ("It is my faith true"), I had forgotten (thought no more of) it, says the stout gent, disappointed,
— 14 and, throwing the five franc piece back into the sand,
— 15 he resumes his search eagerly (puts himself again to search with ardour).
   
EXERCICE.  
— 1 Je vous en prie, ne jetez pas les enveloppes de vos lettres,
— 2 mais donnez-les moi, à cause des timbres.
— 3 Vous en faites collection?
— 4 Non, ce n'est pas pour moi, c'est pour mon neveu.
— 5 Mais il n'a que cinq ans!
— 6 N'importe, cela l'amuse, et ne fait de mal à personne.		 — 1 Please, do not throw away the envelopes of your letters,
— 2 but give them to me, because (at cause) of the stamps.
— 3 Do You collect Intake a "collection" of) them?
— 4 No, it is not for me, it is for my nephew.
— 5 But he is only five !
— 6 No matter, it (that) amuses him, and doesn't do any one any harm.
