Une véritable occasion (1) A real opportunity
1 — Mes enfants, dit M. Duval ce soir-là, j'ai du nouveau pour vous.
2 — Oh! qu'est-ce que c'est, papa, dis vite?
3 — Allons, devinez un peu... et toi aussi, maman.
4 — Tu as une augmentation?
5 — Hélas! non; cela ne vient pas si vite, et surtout par le temps qui court (2).
6 — J'y suis! tes vacances (3) sont fixées!
7 — On ne peut rien te cacher!
8 C'est cela; et cette année, je les prends de bonne heure :
9 à partir du vingt juillet (N. 2).
10 — C'est-à-dire dans quinze jours (N. 3), et nous n'avons encore rien décidé!
11 — Ne te tracasse pas! tout est déjà arrangé.
12 Mon collègue Bernard possède une petite villa près de Saint-Malo,
13 et comme il ne peut y aller avant fin septembre cette année,
14 il nous la louera (4) jusqu'au vingt septembre, à un prix d'ami.
15 C'est une véritable occasion! Six cents francs seulement, pour les deux mois!		 — 1 (My) Children, said M. D. that evening, I have some news for you.

— 12 My colleague B. owns (possesses) a little villa near Saint-Malo,
— 13 and as he cannot go there before the end of September this year,
— 14 he will let it to us until the 20th of September, for very little (friend's price).
— 15 It is a real bargain! Only, 600 francs, for the two months!
   
EXERCICE.  
 — 1 Où passez-vous vos vacances cette année?
— 2 Ma femme veut aller à la mer;
mais personnellement je préférerais la montagne.
— 3 Alors, il y a un moyen de vous arranger;
— 4 allez à Nice, la montagne y est tout près de la mer.
— 5 Mais malgré tout, on ne peut être aux deux endroits à la fois!		 — 1 Where are you spending (passing) your holidays this year?
— 2 My wife wants to go to the sea-side; but personally I would prefer the mountains.
— 3 Then there is a way (means) of managing it (to arrange yourselves) :
— 4 go to Nice, the mountains (there) are quite close to the sea.
— 5 But, in spite of everything, one cannot be in both (the (no) places at once !
