Une promenade dans Paris A stroll through (in) Paris
1 — Comment avez-vous passé la matinée?
2 — Oh! très agréablement.
Je me suis promené du côté (1) des Champs-Élysées;
3 j'ai vu le tombeau du Soldat Inconnu, sous l'Arc de Triomphe...
4 — Qu'est-ce que vous en pensez?
5 — Il est impressionnant, par sa simplicité, dans ce cadre grandiose...
6 Et la flamme symbolique, qui ne s'éteint (2) jamais...
7 — Oui, c'est un magnifique symbole, mais avez-vous poussé (3) jusqu'au Bois?
8 — Non, je suis descendu vers la Seine,
9 à peu près en face de la Tour Eiffel,
10 et j'ai suivi les quais jusqu'à Notre-Dame (4).
11 C'est une promenade ravissante;
12 puis, j'ai déjeuné près du Luxembourg (5).
13 Le Quartier Latin me plaît particulièrement.
14 — Oui, c'est le royaume (6) de la jeunesse :
15 on y étudie, et on s'y amuse aussi!		 — 1 How did you spend the morning?
— 2 Oh, very pleasantly (agreeably).
I went for a walk towards (of the side of) the Champs-Elysées;
— 3 I saw the grave of the Unknown Soldier, under the Arch of Triumph.
— 4 What do you think of it?
— 5 It is impressive, in (by) its simplicity, in those grandiose surroundings (that gr. frame).
— 6 And the symbolic flame, which never goes out.
— 7 Yes, it is a magnificent symbol; but did you go as far as (push till) the Bois?
— 8 No, I went down to(wards) the Seine,
— 9 nearly (at little near) opposite the Eiffel Tower,
— 10 and I followed the embankment ("the quays") as far as (till) Notre-Dame.
— 11 It is a delightful (ravishing) walk;
— 12 then, I lunched near the Luxemburg.
— 13 I am particularly fond of the Latin Quarter (The Lat. Qu. pleases me partic).
— 14 Yes, it is the kingdom of youth ;
— 15 you study there and enjoy yourself there too!
