Connaissez-vous M. Duval? Do you know M. Duval?
1 — Que ferez-vous (1) à Paris?
2 — Eh bien, je me promènerai (2),
3 je visiterai les monuments, les musées, les théâtres,
4 je ferai connaissance de la ville et de ses environs,
5 et d'une façon générale je me perfectionnerai en français.
6 — En quinze jours, vous n'aurez (3) pas Je temps de vous ennuyer (4) ;
7 mais ne connaissez-vous personne (5) à Paris ?
8 — Non, personne. Pourtant, j'ai une lettre d'introduction pour un ami de ma famille,
9 un Français qui a passé quelque temps en Angleterre,
10 mais que je n'ai pas rencontré personnellement.
11 Il s'appelle (6) M. Duval; peut-être le connaissez-vous ?
12 — Duval? J'en connais plusieurs; mais il y en a des centaines, et peut-être des milliers (7) à Paris!		 1 What will you do in Paris?
— 2 Well, I shall walk about (promenade myself),
— 3 I shall visit the monuments, the museums, the theatres,
— 4 I shall get acquainted with (make acquaintance of) the town and its surroundings.
5 and in a general way (of a gen. fashion) I shall perfect my (myself in) French.
— 6 In a fortnight, you will not have time to get bored (annoy yourself) ;
— 7 but do you know nobody in Paris?
— 8 No, nobody, However, I have a letter of introduction to a friend of my family,
— 9 a Frenchman who spent (has passed) some time in England,
— 10 but whom I have not met personally,
— 11 His name is (He calls himself) M. Duval ; perhaps (do) you know him?
— 12 M. Duval? I know several (of them); but there are (of them) hundreds and perhaps thousands in Paris !
   
EXERCICE.  
— 1 Allons nous promener, si vous voulez.
— 2 Je veux bien; par où allons-nous?
— 3 Allons d'abord vers le centre de la ville.
— 4 Comment s'appelle cette grande place?
— 5 C'est la place de la République,
— 6 et ce grand bâtiment doit être l'Hôtel de Ville.		 1 Let us go for a walk, if you like.
— 2 Willingly (I will well); which way (by where) do we go?
— 3 Let us go first towards the centre of the town.
— 4 What is the name of this great square?
— 5 It is Republic Square.
— 6 and that great building must be the Town Hall (" Hotel of Town ").

Vous êtes-vous ennuyé tout seul? Did you feel bored all by yourself?
Je ne m'ennuie jamais : I never feel bored.
Personne ne sait qui est cette personne : Nobody knows who that person is.
De cette façon, vous le ferez facilement : In this way, you will do it easily.
