Il pleut! It is raining!
1 Le dimanche matin, il fait mauvais temps.
2 M. et Mme Duval sont encore au lit (1).
3 M. Duval : Naturellement, il pleut; comme tous les dimanches.
4 Mme Duval : Le temps a l'air bien pris.
5 M. Duval : Oui, nous en avons pour toute la journée (2).
6 Mme Duval : Quelle heure est-il?
7 M. Duval : Il n'est que (3) sept heures; nous n'avons qu'à rester couchés.
8 Mme Duval : Les enfants dorment encore ;
9 mais ils vont bientôt s'éveiller (4).
10 M. Duval bâille, et se tourne sur l'autre côté.
11 Mme Duval, elle, reste éveillée, les yeux au plafond.
12 Puis, elle se lève (5) sans bruit,
13 passe son peignoir, et va à la cuisine,
14 où elle prépare du café.		 1 On (The) Sunday morning, the weather is bad.
— 2 M. and Mme D. are still in (at the) bed.
— 3 M. D. : Of course (Naturally) it is raining; like every (all the) Sundays.
— 4 Mme D. : The weather seems to be set (has the air well taken).
— 5 M. D. : Yes, we are in for it (we have got of it) for the whole (all the) day.
— 6 Mme D. : What time is it?
— 7 It is only seven o'cl. ; we need not get up yet (have only to remain m bed).
— 8 Mme D. : The children are still sleeping:
— 9 but they are going to wake up soon.
10 M. D. yawns, and turns over (himself) on to the other side.
— 11 As for Mme D., she remains awake, looking a; (the eyes to) the ceiling.
— 12 Then, she gets up, noiselessly (without noise) ;
— 13 slips on (passes) her dressing gown, and goes to the kitchen,
— 14 where she prepares some coffee.
   
EXERCICE.  
— 1 Je me lève tard le dimanche.
— 2 Vous avez l'air fatigué.
— 3 Je n'ai pas fermé l'œil de toute la nuit.
— 4 Alors, restez couché (ou au lit).
— 5 Dormez bien.
— 6 Il n'a pas l'air content.		 1 I get up late on Sundays (the Sunday).
— 2 You look tired.
— 3 I did not sleep a wink (have not closed the eye) the whole (of all the) night.
— 4 Then, stay in bed.
— S Sleep well.
— 6 He doesn't look pleased (content).
   
Se coucher is to lie down or to go to bed;
être couché : to lie, or to be in bed.
Je me couche à dix heures : I go to bed at 10 o'cl.
— Il est encore couché (ou Il est encore au lit) : He is still lying down (or in bed).

Couchez-vous! Lie down!
— Allez vous coucher! Go to bed!
— Couchons-nous! Let us lie down!
— Allons nous coucher : Let us go to bed.
Il a l'air très jeune : He looks very young.
