I follow you [go behind you]
     
1 Ну что, мы пойдём вместе? Now [well, what], we out [shall go] together?
     
2 Одну минуту (2), дайте мне кончить это письмо. One minute, let [give] me finish this letter.
     
3 Я пойду вперёд; я вас подожду на скамейке перед (3) почтой. I go [shall go] before; I shall wait (for) you on a bench before the post-office.

Ладно, я приду [прийду] через (4) две минуты.

 Ail right [agreed], I shall come in two minutes.
     
5 Будьте любезны, купите мне марки. Be nice [lovable], buy me stamps.

Какие марки? Для заграницы (5) ?

 What stamps? for abroad?
     
7 Да; возьмите три, пожалуйста;
подождите минуту, я вам дам деньги.		 Yes; take three, please; wait a minute, I [shall] give you the money.
     
8 Не надо: вы мне после заплатите. You don't need to; you will pay [to] me afterwards.

Но у меня мелких нет (6);

 But I have no small (change, money);
     
10 разменяйте мне на почте (7) эти десять рублей. change these ten roubles at the post for me.
     
11 Хорошо; я вас подожду на скамейке у главного входа (8). Well; I shall wait (for) you on a bench near the chief entrance.

я сейчас иду за вами.		 See you again soon [until quick, or near meeting];

EXERCISE
1 Что он сказал насчёт денег? What did he say about the money?
     
2 Я буду у вас через четверть часа. l shall be at your house in a quarter of an hour.
     
3 Пойдём гулять вместе после обеда. Let us go for a walk together after dinner.
     
4 Я сегодня не могу, а завтра с удовольствием. To-day I can't; but to-morrow with pleasure.
     
5 Где можно разменять французские деньги? Where can one change French money (plur.)?
     
6 Магазин как раз перед почтой. The shop is precisely opposite [before] the Р.О.
     
7 Я хочу купить другой зонтик. I want to buy another umbrella.
8 Идите вперёд, мы идём за вами.

Go before [ahead] we follow you [go behind you].

ADDITIONAL EXERCISE
1 Он остановился перед почтой, перед театром. He stopped before the P.O., before the theatre (instrum.).
2 Садитесь передо мной. Sit down before me (instr.).
3 Идите за нами. Follow us (instr.).
4 Идите перед нами. Go before us (instr.)
5 Он у нас живёт. He lives at our house (genit.).
6 Подождите меня у театра, у почты. Wait (for) me near the theatre, the post (genit.).
7 Я подожду до вечера.

I shall wait till the evening (gen. after до).

8 Садитесь на эту скамейку.

Sit down on this bench (acc.: motion).
9 Я вас подожду на этой скамейке. I shall wait (for) you an this bench.
10 До обеда; после обеда; перед обедом. Until dinner (gen.); after dinner (gen.); before dinner (instr.).
 

NOTES - ЗАМЕТКИ

За вами : instrumental. За нами, behind us. За мной, behind me .

Одну минуту, fem. accus. because подождите (wait) is understood.

Перед, before, just like за, behind, has the instrumental :
перед вами, за вами, передо (euphonic о) мной; за мной;
перед обедом, за обедом (masc.); перед почтой, за почтой (fem.).
Notice the change of stress in перед [piered], before, and вперёд, ahead.

Через час: in one hour (from now); через месяц, in one month (from now).

Граница, the frontier; заграницей: behind the frontier, abroad.
- Я еду заграницу, I go abroad (change of place). Он заграницей, he is abroad.

  
6 Мелкие деньги: small change [money].
— Есть ли у вас мелкие (understood : деньги) ?, have you (any) small (change) (money) ?

На почте: prepositional; but: идите на почту, go to the P.О. (accus. of motion).

Главный вход: the chief entrance.
У (as in у меня), is followed by the genitive.

Свидание : rendez-vous oг meeting, interview.
У меня свидание с ним, I have a rendezvous with him.
До, until, is followed by the genitive, hence до свидания, and до скорого свидания (скорый, quick, fast; скоро: soon).

  
 

 

  

Weird Associations Section

Don't be over-scrupulous with the declensions.
Al the outset, you enter upon them a little at random, and presently "it comes" all of itself.
Read again now and then the tables in the Appendix, but don't trouble learning them by heart.

On the other hand, you must reinforce your vocabulary and remember  the most current idiomatic phrases.
In this intention, we shall from now on note a few of them in each lesson.
Let us note especially :
Дай мне кончить: Let me finish.
Через две минуты: in two minutes.
Я вам даю, я вам дам: I give you, I shall give you.
Есть ли у вас мелкие деньги? : Have you (any) small change?
